About energy.org.uk

energy.org.uk is an independent public information service that brings together authoritative British energy data and explains it in plain language.

  • IndependentNot owned or funded by a supplier, installer, trade body or government department.
  • Official sourcesFigures come from Elexon, NESO, Ofgem, National Gas, DESNZ and GOV.UK.
  • No ads or affiliate linksNothing on the site is paid for by the companies it covers.

What we do

We publish Britain's live electricity and gas data, current energy prices, and explanations of the choices households face, from tariffs to solar panels, heat pumps and electric vehicles.

Live figures are attributed to their original publishers and labelled with their observation time, coverage and status. Observed data, estimates, forecasts and annual statistics are never mixed together.

Who operates the site

energy.org.uk is run by a small independent team. It is not part of, and is not funded by, an energy supplier, an installer, a trade body or a government department.

How it is funded

The site is privately funded and currently carries no advertising, no sponsored content and no affiliate links. If that changes, it will be disclosed on the page where it applies and on the affiliate disclosure page.

How information is researched

We start from the primary publisher of a figure rather than from other websites. Every cost or saving carries its assumptions and the date those assumptions were set.

Articles pass through draft, review and publication. Only published articles appear in listings or in search results.

Where the data comes from

Electricity generation and balancing data from Elexon and NESO, carbon intensity from the Carbon Intensity API, gas flows from National Gas Transmission, price cap data from Ofgem, and annual energy statistics from DESNZ.

Corrections

If a figure is wrong we correct it and record the change. Reports are prioritised over other correspondence.
