Editorial policy
Every figure we publish must be traceable to a named source with a date. If we cannot source it, we do not publish it.
Sources come first
We use primary and operational sources: NESO, Elexon, National Gas Transmission, the Carbon Intensity API, Ofgem and DESNZ. Where a number comes from an annual statistic rather than a live feed, we say so and show the period it covers.
We do not republish figures from other websites without going back to the original publisher.
Labelling
Live readings, official published statistics, estimates and forecasts are labelled separately and never mixed in one total.
Where a data source is late or unavailable we show that plainly instead of substituting a zero or a stale value.
Costs and savings
Any cost, saving or payback figure carries the assumptions behind it, the date those assumptions were set, and the source of the rates used.
We do not publish savings claims supplied by manufacturers or installers.
Unfinished work
Articles move through draft, in review, published and archived. Only published articles appear in listings, in the sitemap or in search results; drafts are excluded and marked noindex.
Independence
Commercial arrangements, if any, never determine what we publish, how a comparison is ordered, or which technology we describe as suitable.
