Comparison methodology
energy.org.uk does not currently compare live supplier tariffs. Our comparisons explain the types of choice you face and the costs behind them.
What we compare today
Tariff structures, such as fixed against variable and standard against time-of-use, explained with the Ofgem price cap rates and typical household consumption values.
Technology choices, such as a heat pump against a gas boiler, using published running-cost assumptions that are dated on the page.
What we do not do
We do not list live prices from individual suppliers, and we do not rank suppliers. Until a verified tariff database and a published scoring method exist, any such ranking would be unreliable.
We do not accept payment for placement in any comparison.
How the figures are built
Unit rates and standing charges come from the current Ofgem default tariff cap for a direct debit customer, with the cap period stated.
Typical consumption uses Ofgem's published typical domestic consumption values. Where we use a different figure, the page says which and why.
Every comparison states its assumptions, its date and its limitations next to the result.
