Heat pump installation cost

Average installed cost and what the grant takes off.

Average air source heat pump installation

About £13,300

MCS, certified installations in 2025

After the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant

About £5,800

Average minus the £7,500 grant (England and Wales)

An average, not a quote: individual homes can cost much more or less. Installation costs are kept separate from yearly running costs.

Costs that depend on your home

We don't have reliable published ranges for these, so ask for each as a separate line on your quote:

  • Ground source heat pump

Usually much more than air source because of the ground loop or borehole. Quote required.

  • Radiator upgrades

Only the rooms that need more output at lower temperatures. Quote required.

  • Hot-water cylinder

Needed in most homes that have a combi boiler now. Quote required.

  • Electrical work

Sometimes a consumer unit upgrade or network notification. Quote required.
